NW Pro 4 Truck Construction Rules

The Purpose of these rules is to provide a standard of racing for an economy class of compact truck for the enjoyment of racing. If you cannot abide by this set of rules, do not build a truck to run with this class. If you do not see it in the rules do not do it without calling the race director.

1. Approved trucks: Chevy S-10, GMC S-15, Dodge D-50, Ford Courier, Ford Ranger, 

    Datsun, Nissan, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Chevy Luv, Mazda B- Series. All must maintain a  

    Minimum 101” wheelbase. Extended cabs or extra cabs allowed. Any other trucks must 

    Be approved. Extended Cabs will have pedals in stock location, no pedal extensions

    Allowed. NO front wheel drive trucks.

 

2. Engines: Four-cylinder inline, single camshaft motors. Any engine in any truck. No  

    Roller cams. 2 valves per cylinder 2600CC maximum.

 

3. Intake: Stock intake manifold for motor used. Manifold must maintain stock  

    Appearance for motor used. Aftermarket intakes OK. No more than 3 inches  

    Between the plunum and carb. Allowance of 1/4 inch for gaskets. O.k. to rotate carb. 

    No homemade intake manifolds

 

4. Cylinder Head: Must be mass-produced by O.E.M manufactured. Any deburring,  

    Porting, polishing of cylinder head will add 100lbs of weight to race truck. 

    Hydraulic, non-ported, unpolished cylinder heads will be allowed to remove 100lbs 

    From the race truck (2150lbs min). No SVO heads.

 

5. Block: Must be mass-produced by O.E. Manufacture. Block must use OEM  

    Crankshaft. Rods must be steel, flat top pistons only. No Aluminum Rods. Subject to 

    Tech man.

 

6. Rear Ends: Any stock rear end, Stock OEM third member. No torque or traction 

    Devices of any kind. Welding of gears and spooling are permitted. If rear end is 

    Changed it must be remounted with stock components of truck used. No aluminum 

    Rear-ends unless OEM. Pan hard rod or Watts linkage allowed

    But must be parallel to axle. No Limited slips

 

7. Roll Cage: Full roll cage made with 1.5" Steel Tubing .095" wall thickness minimum. 

    Three sissy bars on left side of cage, two on the right. Right side of cage will not be 

    Left of inside frame rail. The cage must have sheet metal on the outside of the cage 

    From the A pillar to the B pillar covering the left side sissy bars. 20 gauge min.

    Must have Diagonal Halo Bar

 

8. Firewall and floor pan: Must remain in stock location and condition with front post  

    Remaining in truck. All holes must be filled. The #1 Spark plug must be no further  

    Back Than a line between the upper ball joints. The firewall will remain continuous 

    From the Right door post to the left doorpost. No running of the exhaust through the 

    Firewall. Rocker panels maybe removed but must be recovered. If the firewall is

    Altered it must be replaced by welding 20 gauge steel or higher in its place. No rivets 

    Or bolts and must be approved by the Tech man.

 

9. Fuel Cells: Mandatory. Must be securely fastened in bed of truck between frame rails. 

    Must be enclosed in a 22 Gauge steel box with top. Must be at least 12” in front of 

    Rear bumper, with hoop. Subject to tech approval. All trucks running electric fuel 

    Pump must have oil pressure activated system to power electric fuel pump. 

    Momentary bypass switch is allowed.

 

10. Battery: Securely fastened in bed of truck. Accessible master switch required on top 

      Of bed behind driver.

 

11. Wheels: Approved racing wheels of 8” maximum width.

 

12. Fire Extinguisher: Securely mounted within drivers reach, 2lb minimum. Fire 

      Control system highly recommended. Every driver must also have a fully charged 10lb Class B fire 

      extinguisher in their pits at all times.

13. Belts: Three-inch lap and shoulder harness. 5 point recommended. Must be no more 

      Than 5 years old.

 

14. Metal Seat and Headrest: Required. Must meet racing specs. Joes, Butler built, 

      ETC. Mounted by manufacture specs. No Home made, fiberglass, or plastic seats. 

      Subject to Tech man.

 

15. Scatter Shield: Scatter shield mandatory. Must cover clutch and flywheel. Minimum

      3/8” belt material.

 

16. Window Net: Mandatory must cover tightly from B pillar to steering wheel with one 

      Easy connection. Racing approved nets only and easily opened.

 

17. Windshield: All trucks must have a windshield securely mounted with a minimum of

       Two vertical bars. Lexan highly recommended. Subject to tech. You must also have 

       Your truck number in white minimum of 4” in diameter put up in the top right hand 

       Corner of your windshield. Must be viewable from flag stand         

                                      

18. Radiator: Will remain in the front of the engine and have an overflow can, 1 qt 

      Minimum. No Antifreeze, No Glycol based products.

 

19. Muffler: Truck must have a working muffler with its sound output at no more than

      95DB at 100 FT.

 

20. Exhaust: Header may be used. Exhaust to exit behind Cab of truck.

 

21. Sway bar: Any stock type OEM sway bar allowed. Mounting optional.

 

22. Carburetor: Any stock 2 Barrel carb. No side drafts, blowers, injectors or turbos

      Allowed.

 

23. Brakes: Trucks must have all four-wheel brakes in working order. Only stock parts 

      Allowed. The only aftermarket part allowed is the master cylinder, pedal assembly. 

      Rear disc brakes o.k.

 

24. Spoiler: Maximum height is 6 inches. Spoiler can be no wider than truck bed.

 

25. Weight: Must be met at all times

 

            • 2150lbs with hydraulic head (tappets) no porting,

              No polishing

            • 2250lbs with solid head (tappets) no porting, no 

              Polishing

            • 2350lbs with ported and polished heads.

              Hydraulic or solid head             

 

26. Tires: Goodyear Short Track Special only. A300

      Compound only.

                                 22.0 x 8.0 – 13” D2332

                                 23.0 x 8.0 – 13” D2333

      A. Your tires will be chalked prior to qualifying; you must run the same tires you 

           Qualify on in the main event. If you need to change a tire for any reason you must 

           Have tech approval. Pending tire contract   

       

27. Flywheel:  Must use a disk clutch and pressure plate. No ram style couplers, no direct

      Boxes.

 

28. Fire suit: Mandatory.

 

29. Cab: Will be mounted on stock body mounts in stock location. May remove  

      Mounting rubber. No altering of roof height or angle. Later model cab may be used,

      But must retain stock firewall and floor pan of frame used.

 

30. Springs: You may cut or heat. Aftermarket springs ok. No mono or fiberglass springs 

      Allowed. Front and rear weight jacks allowed (ride height adjusters).

 

31. Suspension Front: Stock unmodified OEM lower control arms of frame used, 

      Mounted in the stock location. Upper control arms optional, with mounting

      Optional. No drop spindles. Any OEM spindle allowed. Weight jacks allowed. Any 

      Steel body, or rebuildable steel body shock allowed. No aluminum body, coil over or 

      Adjustable (clicker) on the truck allowed. Front frame may be cut up to 6” back for 

      Bumper mounting purposes only. Frame ride height is a minimum of 4” without 

      Driver. 1/4-inch tolerance post race. Stock type rack and pinion O.K.

 

32. Radios: Not allowed at this time  

    Temporary added amendment: Outlaw compacts will be allowed to put truck bodies on there outlaw  compact legal chassis for rear wheel drive cars ONLY we will not allow front wheel drive cars to convert...Must have a truck built or fully converted to a truck chassis by beginning of 2010.
